A Steem for Steel 2021
From dirty and tiring to innovative and profitable: the perception of young students- involved in the second edition of A Steem for Steel- is changing
The second edition of ‘A Steem For Steel’ has come to an end. It was a successful initiative that involved over 1,200 secondary school students. This year, the initiative, born from an idea of our Marketing and Communication manager Raffaella Poggio, saw the participation, as official partner, of Pipex Italia, joining the other partner companies: Marcegaglia, Acciaierie Venete and Sideralba. The project took place in a digital mode with new interaction systems that were well received by the young students.
This second edition involved several institutes from the following Italian cities: Naples, Mantua, Padua, Verona, Brescia, Bergamo, Novara, Varese plus other cities in Emilia Romagna, Veneto and Lombardy.
The aim of this initiative was to communicate to the younger generations, and in particular to secondary school students, the most innovative and sustainable aspects of the steel industry, and the infinite recycling of the material. The main topics covered were in fact circular economy, innovation and environmental sustainability.
“A Steem for Steel” wants to introduce young people to the many job opportunities that the steel world offers, raising awareness on the skills required by the labor market and therefore the importance of STEEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Economics, Maths) studies. Currently there is a great misalignment between the skills required by the work environment and the skills possessed by job seekers: the initiative thus aims to help reduce the gap between the digital skills of young people and those required by the labour market. With the aim of introducing young students to a new professional future, full of innovation, sustainability and sharing, Pipex Italia proud to promote an initiative that highlights the importance and multiple job opportunities of the steel industry, which has always been the driving force development of our country and also the protagonist of this latest digital revolution.
During the Masterclasses, students were asked to test their knowledge on the sector through an interactive survey that aimed at understanding their future expectations. From the answers gathered we were particularly surprised by the fact that, compared to last year, the perception about the steel sector has changed. We are probably going in the right direction, with a communication that is trying to help understand what the positive meanings of the steel industry are.
Pipex Italia participated in the second Masterclass, held on May 4th, with the participation of 286 students from the main high schools and technical institutes of the areas in which we operate. In the session, we involved one of our Junior figure who talked about his STEEM path and the company project he is following in Industry 4.0. Our CEO Luigi Cuzzolin closed the session and underlined the various job opportunities that the sector offers and how to prepare to access them.
